Event Description

Announcement: Global Symposium of Peaceful Nations

Although the threats facing the world in the 21st century are immense and could potentially lead to violent conflicts, there is evidence that it is possible to reduce the likelihood and severity of violent conflict around the world. The purpose of the Global Symposium of Peaceful Nations is to shift the attention from war to peace, and learn from those countries that have achieved a high level of peacefulness.

Building on the Global Peace Index, the Symposium, which will take place on November 1-3, 2009 in Washington, DC, is an occasion to celebrate and learn from the two most peaceful nations from nine global regions. For a full list of participating countries and more information, please visit our website at www.peacefulnations.org.

The countries represented are the following:
Japan - South Korea - Slovenia - Czech Republic - Qatar - Oman - Canada - Costa Rica - New Zealand - Australia - Singapore - Vietnam - Chile - Uruguay - Botswana - Malawi - Denmark - Norway
